“CHRIST HAS RISEN; GO HOME.” GUNMEN SAID TO INMATES

In the wee hours of Easter Monday (5th April 2021) some unidentified gunmen attacked the federal correctional center and Police command headquarters in Owerri, Imo state.

It was reported that these Gunmen took advantage of the calm serenity of the festive period to attack the police station, some eye witnesses said that while they freed the inmate, they shouted, “Christ has risen; go home.”

There was said to have been heavy gunfire during the attack as cars were destroyed, the Police station razed and people lost their lives during the stampede.

The Police command spokesman, Ikeokwu Orlando when asked of the situation and about the released inmate could not give any reasonable statement but said in his words, “I’d get back to you.”

In other to ensure tight security within the state, the state commissioner of police, Nasiru Mohammed said that he has deployed over four thousand, seven hundred and sixty (4760) security personnel to guide and safeguard the citizens of the state during and after the Easter celebration.

Bashir Ahmed the personal assistant on news media in his tweet said that the President has ordered security agencies within the state to go after the terrorists and have them punished under the weight of the law.

The amount of inmates released from the facility is still unknown.
