On Friday 21st May, seven officers including Chief of Army staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru (COSA) along with four crew members were killed in a military plane crash. This news was confirmed by the official Twitter handle.
The NAF Director of Public Relation and Information, Air Commodore Gabkwet Edward stated this in a press release on Friday. He said “An Air crash involving @NigAirforce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained, more details to follow soon.”
The Nigeria Air Force has begun it’s investigation as to the cause of the plane crash in which the Gen, his aides and others boarded were killed.
The Lieutenant General who has recently appointed alongside others on the 26th January 2021 was going to attend the graduation ceremony of the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria on Saturday. Report showed that the plane crashed at the Kaduna International Airport at about 6pm and no survivors were on the plane. Further investigation reported that the plane crashed due to bad weather as it rained heavily in different states at that time.
Aside the Lieutenant General, the names of those involved in the crash were: BRIG GEN KULIYA; SGT UMAR; MAJ LA HAYAT; GEN MI ABDULKADIR, BRIG GEN OLAYINKA; MAJ HAMZA. The Crew members were: ACM OYEDEPO; FLT LA AA OLUFADE; SGT ADESINA; FLT LT TO ASANIYI.
These were the 11 passengers and crew members on board.
